2009 Sky Soaring Memorial Day Weekend Mini-Contest

Date: Sat/Sun May 23-24 with Practice Day Fri, May 22
Site: Sky Soaring Glider Club at 55LL (Hampshire, IL)
Entry Fee: $140 for non- Sky Soaring Members/$110 for SSI Members
Field: Limited to 22 entries

Deadline: Deposits must be received by May 16th

This mini-contest will be a non-SSA-sanctioned Sports Class event with two sub-classes (Beginner and Advanced) flying separate tasks each day. Scoring will follow the Northern Illinois Soaring Contest. (NISC) guidelines. NISC Rules. NISC turnpoint databases.

1st Year (2008) Mini-Contest Grid

The objective of the contest is to introduce novice X-Country pilots to contest flying in a relaxed setting while having fun and then providing more challenging tasks for the more advanced pilots. Team flying is encouraged. Club ships are welcome.

There will be a pilot meeting each morning to discuss weather, safety, grid, tasks, contest operations, and other topics. A Saturday evening cookout is planned (cost to be determined). Please bring something to share. Practice day is the preceeding Friday during Club operations (first come/first served).

The entry fee is $140 which includes two 2,000ft tows (unused tows will be refunded). Additional tows are $25 each.

A $40 deposit is required to secure your entry. Make check payable to Sky Soaring, Inc. Deposit must be received by May 16th at the address shown below. Additional contest information will be sent to each entrant upon receipt of their deposit.

Notes:

  • On-site camping is available (with electricity).
  • The Super 8 motel is 1/2 mile to the south-east.
  • Several fast food and truck stop restaurants 1/2 mile to the south-east.
  • Several good restaurants about 9 miles to the north-west in Marengo, IL.
  • All pilots - Bring SSA membership, Pilot's license.
  • Private Ships - Bring copy of insurance.
